Issues

There are 6 areas that most of us who live in Lomita think are vitally important. As your City Council Member, I will focus my attention on each of them.

Preserving our small town low density atmosphere

Upgrading our streets and city infrastructure

    Maintaining a safe low-crime city

Continuing the revitalization of Lomita's downtown business areas

Maintaining a financially sound budget with a healthy reserve

Actively including Lomita community members in city planning and decision making

Community

Lomita is the best little city in the South Bay: safe, clean, with a strong community spirit, active churches and community organizations, attractive parks and popular recreational programs, and a responsive city government.

Lomita is a great place to live for all ages, from growing up to growing old. As your City Councilmember, maintaining and strengthening our hometown as a superior place to live, work and play will continue to be my primary focus.

Lomita's senior citizens play an essential role in our families, our neighborhoods, and our city affairs. They deserve to have their concerns heard. As your City Council Member, I will work closely with Seniors to incorporate their input into city decision-making.

Lomita Community Spirit - We who live & work in Lomita value greatly its small town community spirit. As your City Council Member, I will work to foster this environment of community cooperation by encouraging continued City Council support of organizations such as the Lomita Library and of city sponsored events such as Founders Day, activities and classes offered through Lomita Park, and other events sponsored by Lomita organizations that bring together members of our community.

Safety in Lomita - Lomita is a very safe community for residents & businesses. Thanks to police and fire service contracted with the Sheriff & Fire departments, we wait only minutes for emergency service. Elderly and housebound residents may sign up for Carrier Alert so that postal workers will keep an eye out for them. Elderly and low-income residents can receive no-cost home repairs through the city community development office.

As your City Council Member, I will work to ensure that our current exemplary level of police & fire service continues and improves. I will also work for continued city support of programs like the Graffiti Removal Program and for assistance programs that help those who most need it.

Economic Business Development

Lomita's success as a residential community is greatly dependent on its having a healthy and robust business environment.

As your City Councilmember, I will concentrate my effort on working for long term planning growth in the Lomita business district that ensures keeping our small-town atmosphere while working hard to build a vibrant business environment that:

improves the economic climate for existing and new businesses

focuses efforts on the recruitment of businesses that serve our residents and offer long term promise as contributors to our city's economic development

includes a city-wide process to ensure the broadest possible citizen involvement in planning for business area improvements

Prudence and Common Sense in Fiscal Planning and City Government

The City of Lomita is facing fiscal challenges that require careful long-term budget planning. Examples include construction of the water reservoir and replacement of water mains, park facilities upgrades, street maintenance and repair, and employee salaries and benefits. Lomita residents are rightfully concerned that their tax dollars be spent wisely and prudently to meet these needs.

As your City Council Member, I will insist on a common sense and prudent approach to fiscal planning and management of the city that includes maintaining a substantial contingency fund.

Communication between City Hall and the Community

A major benefit of living in a small city like Lomita is that residents & business-owners alike find it easy to speak directly with city staff and elected representatives. This level of communication is essential in operating a city government that responds quickly to citizen input.

Furthermore, planning for our city's future requires effective and on-going two-way dialog between the citizens of Lomita and their elected officials.

As your City Council Member, I will make myself available to the people of Lomita so that I can represent your needs and concerns. I will work to develop new ways to communicate to you the challenges we are facing in our city and to listen to your opinions. I will also work to support City staff in their efforts to provide the highest quality service to the city.
